canning

I've been learning how to can this summer/fall. I've had some really good experiences and some bad but in the end it's worked out well. I found out that I shouldn't can on my glass top stove so I've borrowed my parents out door propane stove which has been great. It has been really neat to pick things from my garden and store them for later. So far we have pickles, (dill and sweet) salsa, peach jam, and peaches. I still plan to pickle beets and make more salsa.

I really wish I could learn. But, when people try to explain I get lost. Oh well.

I think you have to do it with someone who knows what they are doing. If you just try to learn from an explanation it doesn't always turn out right. That was one of my bad experiences. My mom tried to just tell me how to can peaches and I miss understood her. Also my MIL cans them differently so the combination caused problems. It all worked out in then end though.

Nice! That looks awesome! So much prettier than store bought metal cans. :) We canned like 5 jars of tomatoes and then froze some. Mike figured out it cost us more to grow and can them than it would to buy some at the store, but that's because of the expense it took us to lay out the garden area to be protected from gophers and buying new canning jars and everything. I still think it's good to know how.
